Ranking recalculation scheduled for August

Published 2026-07-07

With the spring tournament season officially closed as of last weekend's Fernhollow Open, the Federation's ranking committee will begin the quarterly recalculation on August 3rd. Every player registered in a national or regional category will see their position shift to some degree, so this article walks through what actually changes and why.

How the rolling window works

Unlike a simple season-to-season reset, our ranking system uses a rolling 12-month window. Instead of wiping the board clean each year, the calculation engine looks at the trailing twelve months from the recalculation date and considers only results that fall inside that span. As each month passes, the oldest month's results quietly age out and the newest month's results are folded in. This is meant to reward sustained form rather than a single good or bad season, though it does mean a strong result from last summer is about to vanish from your total whether you like it or not.

What drops off this cycle

Because the window now runs from August 2025 through July 2026, several notable events are aging out of the calculation:

  • All results from the 2025 Wynthorpe Summer Classic, including the widely discussed upset in the mixed-doubles semifinal
  • Points earned at last year's Autumn Club Championships, which for many players were their single largest point contribution
  • Friendly-league results recorded before August 15, 2025, per the standard eligibility cutoff

If a large share of your current ranking came from any of the above, expect a visible drop even if your recent form has been solid.

What gets added in

On the other side of the ledger, the engine now incorporates every sanctioned result from the just-finished spring calendar:

  1. The Fernhollow Open (all divisions)
  2. The regional Tarnwick Cup qualifiers and finals
  3. Sanctioned club-league matches played between March and June
  4. Any make-up matches submitted and approved before the July 20th submission deadline

Players who had a breakout spring, in particular the surprising run of junior players in the Under-16 bracket at Tarnwick, should see meaningful gains once the numbers settle.

Where to check your new ranking

Updated standings will publish to the Ranking page inside the Player Portal on the morning of August 4th, shortly after the overnight batch job completes. Your profile will show both your new position and a short breakdown of which events contributed to it, so you won't need to reconstruct the math yourself. Category boundaries (Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Open) are also reviewed at this time, so a shift in points can occasionally mean a shift in category too.

Frequently asked questions

  • Will my rank definitely change? Almost certainly, even if only slightly, since the underlying window has moved.
  • What if I didn't play any spring events? Your points from the trailing months you still have will remain, but you'll have no spring contribution to offset what ages out, so a decline is likely.
  • Can I dispute a result used in the calculation? Yes. Disputes must be raised through the club office before August 10th; nothing submitted after the window closes will be reflected in this cycle.
  • Does this affect tournament seeding? Only for events scheduled after August 4th. Anything already seeded before that date uses the prior ranking snapshot.

As always, the committee will post a short summary note once the recalculation completes, and the club offices are happy to walk through your individual breakdown if the new number comes as a surprise.
